BIRKA/BJÖRKÖ The island of Birka is where Sweden was born. When the missionary, Ansgar, stepped ashore here among the Vikings in the 9th century a radical change took place. Visiting Birka is a fascinating journey back in time. The special exhibition this summer is called “Warriors of Birka” and shows how the town of Birka was defended, the warriors and their weapons, their equipment and sacrificial finds. On Birka you can also eat at the Särimner restaurant. |
